Twitter introduces Irish Presidential election emoji ahead of vote
The Irish Presidential election is only weeks away - and Twitter has introduced a new emoji during the run-up.
Twitter has revealed a new Irish Presidental emoji ahead of the election.
Using the hashtag #Áras18 will reveal the new emoji symbol. It shows an Irish flag above the Áras an Uachtaráin.
The new emoji lets Twitter users join in the heated debated for Ireland's next president.
A poll commissioned by UK bookmakers Paddy Power suggests that Michael D Higgins is favourite to take office at Áras.
Higgins boasts 70% of votes, which means a 56 point lead on his closest rival, according to the figures. Sean Gallagher is second for the seat with 14% of votes and Senator Joan Freeman has just 6%.
The Irish presidential election will take place on Friday 26th October.
Social media network Twitter are no strangers to creating emojis to mark special occasions. Earlier in the month, a Gandhi emoji was produced to mark his 150th birth anniversary.
Previously, Twitter also added a new emoji to celebrate the Pope's historic visit in August for the World Meeting of Families. The event was also coincidentally held in Ireland.
